How to Write a Food Photography Brief (UAE Restaurant Template)

Food Photography Brief - Food on Focus

Most disappointing shoots are not a photography problem. They are a Food Photography Brief problem. Ten minutes writing this down before the shoot saves a reshoot later.

What a Brief Must Answer

  1. Where will these images be used? Delivery apps, print menu, social, website or all four.
  2. How many dishes? An exact list, not an estimate.
  3. Which are hero dishes? The three to five that deserve extra time.
  4. What crop ratios do you need? Square, portrait, landscape or all.
  5. Do you need video? Decide before the shoot, not during.
  6. What is the deadline? Tie it to the menu launch or campaign date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a food photography brief?

A short-written document listing the dishes, usage, formats, mood and deadline for a shoot, so the photographer delivers exactly what the business needs.

How detailed should a brief be?

One page is usually enough. The dish list, usage and deadline matter more than long descriptions of style.

Do I need reference images?

Two or three help a lot. They remove ambiguity about lighting and styling faster than written descriptions.

Who should write the brief?

Whoever owns the marketing output, usually the owner or marketing lead, with input from the chef on plating and prep times.
